Pernes-les-Fontaines is a medieval walled town steeped in history. With roots dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, the town grew in stature during the tenth century, and was the capital of the Comtat Venaissin until 1320.

Know as the 'Pearl of the Comtat' it is located at the centre of a vast plain into which the Sorgue de Velleron and the Nesque rivers flow. It lies between Carpentras and Isle sur la Sorgue, close to the western slopes of the Vaucluse Mountains, a range of hills and small valleys. It has an extraordinary cultural heritage and is home to many architectural gems and historic monuments. It has been declared one of France's best kept secrets.
